" There is More to Musicianship than Just going into the Studio to Record..." - BEEORBOY

He dropped a single recently and the reception was amazing. His name is Beeorboy and we are sure not many who enjoyed his YAHWEH JEHOHAH song knew as much as he has revealed in this exclusive interview we had with him.

Ladies and gentleman, we present to you, Beeorboy....Half man, half amazing.

Hello Beeorboy. Good to have you here. Most people in The CiTy never heard of you until the release of your song, Yahweh Jehovah...Can you briefly tell us about you?

It's my pleasure being here. I am Oduremi Abiola Timothy. My friends call me Beeorboy- Just a stylish way of calling Biola, Bio-boy. I was born in the Northern part of the country, precisely Zaria. I was about 7years old when my family moved to Modakeke-ife, my home town, where I had most of my childhood.. I grew up loving music as a teenager. I would lead praises and special ministrations in the children chapel back then in my local assembly, The Apostolic Church. Even as a teenager I started singing with the adult choir and that was when I was about 14yrs of age.

My choirmaster accommodated me warmly and taught me well how to write songs, using the bible and our church hymn book 'cos we don't sing other people's songs... we write new songs always, especially for anniversaries in church.

He saw the skill in me, appreciated it, and helped in developing it. We had no piano then, it was "Acuba" and locally made drum set, but we were making good melody out of those. After about 2 years, my choirmaster left. I was the closest person to him. There was no one to coordinate the choir, then I took the responsibility of writing songs and leading people that were even old enough to be my grandparent.

Woah...

Yeah. At the age 17 I became the choirmaster of my then local church. In 2004, I had to leave the church on a quest for personal development in real and good music. I became an RCCG member. No I had to start learning new songs and styles of singing. That transition was another interesting experience for me. I started learning musical instruments like the guitar and after a few months I started playing in the church. I had to hide under that while grooming and blending my vocal skills into contemporary music. After about 2years I was fortunate to lead praise and worship at one evening service when there was no capable choir member around, and that was where I was discovered.

By then my skills had been redefined and polished a bit, and the local tune of FUJI genre stood me out. I left secondary school in 2000 and was home till 2005 seeking admission into higher institution. I guess I'll have to pause there for further questions....

Hehehe. You can continue....

My life is a testimony...I Gained admission into Obafemi Awolowo University to study Building instead of Mechanical Engineering that I put in for. I never wanted to study that course but was advised and compelled to do it simply because I had waited too long at home. I wasn't concentrating in class and was forcing it hoping to change for a better course when I got to 200L which was not allowed. At 300L, I took a crazy decision...I dropped out of school.

I wasn't a dullard. I just knew I wasn't meant for Building. I needed a new start and wanted to be independent. Growing up from a very humble home made me know I had to push harder. Purpose was on my mind... I left Ife for Ibadan to start all over again and I bless God that I took that decision of living a fulfilled life for him. It wasn't easy at all starting over. I went through a lot surviving and living, but God kept me and brought me over every mountain that was before me.

I dropped my first single in the middle of these trials and it was titled AKOLOLO. It was a total expression of what I was going through. Destiny may be delayed but it can never be denied. Singing is my hobby. Not just singing but praising Jehovah. I can do it all day long.

Presently I am a 200L undergraduate of University of Ibadan in the Guidance and Counseling department. I love Jesus with my life, and God is my strong tower

Indeed, your story is one that inspires...The grit...The courage...

I live to praise God and to preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

Being privileged to come into the knowledge of purpose early and starting out allover again twice is not an easy come-by. Your choir upbringing obviously had an impact in the music you do. Tell us more about your music

My music is gospel. It is real. I love highlife music and you can observe that in my compositions. My music is a blend of contemporary music and highlife music. I love singing Fuji also, it's a part of me you can't take away. My album is going to be loaded with a good blend of all I do in music. It will be a fine fusion of Fuji, highlife and contemporary music that is skillfully and rightly delivered and will be coming to you soon

That's good to know. We have observed that music from Ibadan have been coming in rich sounds that show artistry and good musicmanship...

Yes you are right. Ibadan musicians are loaded and I am very proud to be one of them doing it for God...

With the quality of music available in Nigeria and the cry for better music, one would say we should have more Ibadan music as remedy. In your words, what would you say is limiting such good music from gaining entry into the mainstream?

There is more to musicianship than just going into the studio to record. Looking at it critically, I would say lack of exposure and education on quality music production is limiting our artistes here. I have worked with one or two producers and also have some as friends, but working with WOMP was off the hook for me. We've got talents here in Ibadan but our producers, I am sorry to say, aren't doing well enough. Quality music cannot be produced by a trial and error approach, you need to understand production to be a seasoned producer. Furthermore, Ibadan lacks platforms and good knownledge of promotion for their music..

Alright. You mentioned your album earlier. Tell us about it

Oh yes! Hands are on deck already. The album is slated to be released next year. I am taking my time to really give out the best of worthy gospel music. It's going to be a fusion. A rich African praise, gospel Fuji, contemporary and highlife music that exudes a deep expression of love as enjoyed from God.

We know Wole Oni's one of the producers on the project. Which other producers or artistes are or will be on it with you?

The best hands of Ibadan and Ife that I know, Edward Sunday and Nelson Kenneth respectively will be on it. The evergreen voice of our grandfather in music, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey will also be one of the high points of the album.. We are doing a remix of one of his tracks, Mukulu muke.

That's indeed an album to look forward to.

I am still hoping to work with one more artiste but that has not yet been decided

Is there any additional info you want us to know about the album?

Nothing more than to say watch out for originality in gospel music

So, Beeorboy, how has the reception been for your latest single, "Yahweh Jehovah"? Also tell us about the song and how you got to put it together

It has been a very warm and encouraging reception. I have been receiving calls and messages from home and abroad. People have called to tell me how blessed they have been by this piece. Yahweh be praised.

We checked recently and saw that the song had the highest downloads amongst the song we posted that week

The song Yahweh Jehovah is an exploration of God's name. Reading through the bible in the old testament, I came to the understanding of why God was called YAHWEH and JEHOVAH. Mighty and wondrous things HE did for the Isrealites, fighting their battles and exceeding their needs, they called him Jehovah and also Yahweh because He saw them through many trials. I couldn't but join in the chorus, thinking of how good the Lord has been to me. This song is my testimony of the faithfulness of the only one God to me.

Oh that's great. So, was Wole Oni the first choice of producer you thought of? Also, how was it like working with the WOMP?

No really! I was going to work with a producer in Ibadan. Infact we had sealed the deal but on one fateful day I was checking my facebook wall and I saw Wole Oni online. It has always been on my mind to work with him someday when I become a BIG BOY, having listened to many of his productions. So I chatted him up about my plans and he sent me his number to call. The rest was history.

I have never worked with a better producer. He gave me what I wanted. Wole Oni is a great and humble man. He encouraged me so much and I will forever be grateful. We have a relationship now.

Alright, then. So, what else do we expect from Beeorboy anytime soon aside from the album which is dropping next year?

I will be dropping another single and also Yahweh Jehovah's video will be coming before the album

We all anticipate them. It was nice having you here for this interview. We pray God's blessings and fullness upon you

I am honoured. Thank you for encouraging us in giving to the LORD. God bless
