INTERVIEW BY GMT
GMT: Is it improper for Gospel artistes/Music ministers to demand to be paid before/after ministering at a church event/program?
Kenny: In the beginning it was not so, that minstrels would need to demand payment. In the Old Testament Levitican priesthood, the temple musicians were cared for with the tithes of the nation. In the New Testament Melchizedek priesthood, Paul said, " muzzle not the ox that treads the corn". Those who water should be watered back. The Bible said the pioneering church of the book of Acts of the apostles shared all they had in common and no one lacked.
However today, we see pastors owning luxurious cars, houses and even private jets while their workers and members aren't that lavishly cared for, this explains why temple folks like gospel artistes demand money for their services today. I can assure you that most gospel minstrels didn't start out charging money, which they needed, but as they were constantly denied, things changed.
Despite the inconsistencies on today's altars with the scriptures, I still believe that wisdom is profitable to direct, and see a man, gospel artistes included, diligent in his ways, he shall sit with kings and not mere men.
Our talents are given so that we may profit thereby. There is however what the scripture calls unjust weight, let us not be caught in it.
GMT: What's your stands on gospel events being "ticketed"- where people have to pay a fee to be admitted into the event to get blessed? Cool or Crap?
Kenny: The logistics of gospel event costs money, so organizers can use that to excuse themselves if they so choose to charge, and it makes sense. But frankly speaking, money is not the currency of the Kingdom of our GOD, alas, we have made HIS words of none effect in our lives hence we turn to inventions. Now all we do is service our inventions exploiting the Name of GOD.
In the beginning it was not so. It may look like an herculean task but I believe we can all return to our first love.It may appear that church issues is complicated but it really isn't; we all just need to return to the doctrines of GOD that we have substituted unwittingly with the doctrines of men and Satan.
GMT: Secular artistes are known for their vulgar lyrics, raunchy videos and being on media headlines for wrong reasons. Would you advise gospel ministers to collaborate with their secular contemporaries?
Kenny: No, I would not encourage gospel artistes to feature with secular artistes. We always have excuses to do what we want to do, and this issue isn't an exception. I've heard gospel artistes defend their secular collaborations by claiming it helps them reach the unchurched etc.
But I remember Paul saying,"we have not come to you with the enticing word of man's wisdom but with the demonstration of the Spirit and power. "
We don't lure, or entice, or manipulate people to Christ, that's WITCHCRAFT IN THE NAME OF THE LORD. We deliver the truth by the power of the Spirit.
GMT: What is the key element that distinguishes gospel music from other genres of music?
Kenny: Gospel music, whatever the genre, glorifies GOD and edifies men. If it doesn't Glorify GOD, if there is noting edifying in it for men, then however way it is presented or garnished, or defended, it isn't gospel music.
GMT: If Kenny Ko're ministers on stage and the crowd do not respond- they just stare at you, how would you manage the situation?
Kenny: It can be daunting when you're expecting encore but you don't get it. As an artist you'll have to make use of whatever situation you find yourself. Jesus didn't say things would never go wrong, what He promised is that He'll always be there. I will focus on that promise and usually it is enough.
There are times though that I actually don't want people to do nothing else but listen, and meditate on the songs, when I get that, it is all the ovation I need.
GMT: Kenny Ko're in the remaining of 2014?
Kenny: I hope to shoot at least two video's, to release more singles, continue to be a loving husband of one wife, and a responsible father to my children. I hope to continue to make GOD proud of me, and to always prefer HIS will to mine.
GMT: Following the security state of our nation and your passion about peace in our land. We believe that is the drive behind the song you did "bringing down boko haram" and the fast you embarked upon. What would you say is the role of the church in tackling the security situation in the country?
Kenny: This is all I will say; We wrestle not against flesh and blood, we are fighting a war of ideas.
"What's the most resilient parasite? Is it a bacteria?, a virus?, an intestinal worm?
It is an idea. Resilient, highly contagious.
Once an idea has taken hold in the brain, it's almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed, fully understood, sticks! — Dom Cobb/inception.
It doesn't just stick it most especially finds expression.
The War of Ideas is a clash of opposing ideals, ideologies, or concepts through which nations or groups use strategic influence to promote their interests. The “battle space” of this conflict is the target population’s "HEARTS AND MINDS".
The “weapons” used in the war of ideas can include, think tanks, TV programs, newspaper articles, the internet, blogs, official government policy papers, traditional as well as public diplomacy, religion, and radio broadcasts. -Antulio J.
The bible says,"guide your heart, mind, with all diligence because out of it comes the issues that shapes life."
In the North men have taken in ideas for which they are ready to lay waste their lives and other peoples lives along with them.
How do you fight the battle of ideas, if not by presenting a better idea. How do you change a man who is living and dying for his believes if not by truly living and dying for yours. How many believers truly get it?, how many of us have left the milk and are now chewing on the meat of the word?, how many of us understand the bible enough for it to find expression in our day to day lives?
Are you more than a conqueror; Boko Haram is saying; PROVE IT!
GMT: It was insightful chatting with you
